Community Resources

Richmond Ruff House: RRH is a new non-profit rescue group dedicated to improving life for dogs waiting to find their forever home. While the RRH founders were fostering for another rescue group and volunteering at RAL, they saw the need for more help. Cindy Larkin of RRH says “we pretty much turned our backyard into a doggy paradise and want to provide rescue/foster dogs a fun, safe environment while they wait for their forever home, not just a crate, food, and water. We want to combine the best parts that we saw in all the rescues. Our goal is to eventually have a physical location but with more of a daycare feel than a shelter feel.” What a great mission! Richmond Ruff House was the recipient of tons of donated blankets, towels, toys & treats from DogServices’ 2015 Tacky Sweater Contest.

Friends of Richmond K9: Friends of Richmond K9 is a local non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness, educating the public, and providing financial support for the Richmond Police’s Canine unit including both active and retired patrol dogs. DogServices has partnered with Friends of Richmond K9 for several fundraisers, including the first annual 5K for K-9’s in March 2015!

FETCH a Cure: FETCH a Cure is a non-profit designed to raise awareness, to educate and provide pet owners greater access to information about pet cancer, senior care and treatment options. Their vision is simple: A community where no one is denied a choice for their pet due to lack of options, education or funding.

Henrico County Police Animal Shelter: The Animal Protection Unit of Henrico is comprised of highly trained supervisors, officers, and civilian staff members who provide the following services to Henrico County citizens: Care to rescued animals, rabies shots clinics four times annually, animal rescue (abused, lost, or stray animals), education and training on various topics, and customized programs for local groups and organizations. The Henrico County Police Animal Shelter was the recipient of tons of donated blankets, towels, toys & treats from DogServices’ 2014 Tacky Sweater Contest.

Richmond Animal Care & Control: Richmond Animal Care & Control (RAC&C) is the only open admission public shelter in the City of Richmond. RAC&C provides humane care for more than 4,400 stray, injured, lost, abused and relinquished pets a year. Our professional Animal Control staff investigates animal cruelty, enforces humane laws and issues pet licenses. Assistance is provided to city residents in need of pet lost and found services, low-cost spay/neuter resources and other humane services designed to help pet owners care for their beloved family members!

AARF: The Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation (AARF) is a Richmond, Virginia based, non-profit, all volunteer, non-euthanizing organization founded in May of 1993. Their goal is to rescue orphaned animals and place them in loving homes.

BARK: The mission of Bandit’s Adoption and Rescue of K-9s (BARK) is to rescue orphaned or abandoned pets and other adoptable dogs from animal shelters in the Richmond area, provide spay/neuter and vaccinations, then find loving, forever homes for them. In 2013, BARK placed 402 dogs in forever homes.

Tramps Rescue: Tramps Rescue is a small, private dog rescue based in Goochland, VA. They rescue dogs of all kinds and give them love and medical care to get them ready for great forever homes.
